Early 20th century linen napkins with monogram and check design.
These Hungarian soft yet heavy-weight linen napkins date back to the early part of the 20th century when most linen homeware was made from home-grown flax/hemp and spun into yarns destined for all the textiles a household would need.
As with most home produce of the day, these fabrics were untreated as the plant base was grown organically.
The monograms were usually sewn onto individual items to personalise pieces which were most often given as a wedding gift.
